Его жизнь скучна и обыденна, даже его сестра сбежала из нее, оставив младенца на попечении брата. Но всё меняется после встречи выпускников, где он встречает друзей, с которыми провел 1969 год. За бутылкой сакэ один из друзей рассказывает о странных событиях: мистических исчезновениях целых семей, трагических смертях и набирающей силу таинственной секте со скрывающим свою личность и называющим себя 'Друг' главарем. Все эти события объединяет один знак, всколыхнувший в душе Кендзи уже забытые детские воспоминания. Пытаясь разобраться в происходящем, Кендзи вскоре понимает, что возможно лишь он сможет уберечь мир от гибели.
'20th Century Boys' - одноименная адаптация популярной манги о грядущем конце света мангаки Юкихико Цуцуми, также автора знаменитой серии 'Монстр'.
Манга '20th Century Boys' публиковалась в журнале 'Shogakukan Big Spirits Comics' с 1999 года по 2007. Она была переведена на несколько языков и была опубликована в одиннадцати странах, а также завоевала множество наград и премий, включая 'Best Prize for a Series' на Ангулемском международном фестивале во Франции.
Трилогия '20th Century Boys' - самый большой и дорогостоящий проект в истории кинематографа Японии. Его бюджет составил свыше шести биллионов иен, а каст насчитывает около трехсот человек.

«Looking at the locations, sets, and big action sequences throughout the film, it's indeed a relatively big budget production with no qualms about throwing money to achieve some form of visual perfection. The finale is nothing short of breathtaking, and with well filled tension, though if you're not expecting this to be the first episode of an franchise, you'll find yourself swearing at its cliffhanger ending.»
