He got his screen name from producer See-Yuen Ng, who cast him in Ninja in the Dragon's Den in 1982.
Studied a variety of martial arts, including Northern Shaolin and Wing Chun Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Karate, and Boxing. Using the various philosophies of these arts, he created his own martial art called "Realistic Fist", which sets aside forms and focuses on more practical techniques to subdue the opponent.
