Yatterman is live-action adaption of hugely popular anime series produced by Tatsunoko Productions in the late 1970s that was revived last year in Japan.
«Takashi Miike's Yatterman is ridiculous, juvenile and sometimes tiresome, but it's all in the service of sending up a particularly beloved genre of anime. Good, guilty fun if you're in the right frame of mind.»
«despite the stunningly idiotic gags, the dingbat musical numbers and dazzling color schemes, the pic's repetitive episodic structure ultimately trumps Miike's parody of it, and becomes wearisome after a while.»
«however, that’s a fairly minor criticism of what is otherwise a ridiculously entertaining film. And while it probably won’t appeal to the fans who have Miike pigeon-holed as an “extreme cinema” director, it should appeal to just about anyone looking for a goofy, fun way to spend two hours.»
