Plot: Princess Yuki, the sole member of the royal family to survive when her kingdom is attacked by neighbouring forces. Yuki's only hope is to escape to a nearby allied land with her secret stash of gold so that she can rebuild her forces. It will not be an easy trip, however, as her forces are decimated and she has only her loyal guard - General Rokurota, and a pair of rogue peasants to help her on her way.
The Last Princess is a remake to Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress about two peasants caught in the middle of territory wars, that had inspired George Lucas’ Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
«Kuorsawa's main aim in "Kakushi Toride," however, was entertainment — and Higuchi's is no different. But Kurosawa hated cliches, while Higuchi embraces them, including the biggest of all in the action genre — massive, apocalyptic explosions. »

«A worthy successor to the original film? Not so much. Kurosawa’s original is legendary, a status this film will never achieve. A decent piece of entertainment? In fits and starts, yes, provided your willing to simply skim across the surface of the film and enjoy the visuals and set pieces.»
«With a stellar cast and an action-packed story, Higuchi has the makings of a blockbuster hit on his hands. The Hidden Fortress: The Last Princess will appeal to not only the Japanese audience that it’s intended for but it has a commercial appeal that will easily cross any language and cultural barriers. In fact, it could hold its own with any of the summer blockbusters that Hollywood is planning on releasing this year.»
