Plot: One night, tuning old radio player, student So Eun (Kim Ha Neul) catching up a radio frequency with a voice and connects with In (Yoo Ji Tae) who fortuitously goes to exactly the same college. They decide to meet together on campus, scheduling appointment, both come in time, looking around everywhere near by and unable to find each other, each confused. Later they realize that actually they are living in completely different years and even centuries. Able to hand on by some blip of time, they both reveal a close relationship, unconcealing their confidence and relationship questions. They understand each other closer and closer, after some time their lives are more entwined than they think or conceive.
Ditto movie was released in 2000 year, four months earlier than popular sci-fi romance Il Mare with nearly the same subject. More than just a romantic story, Ditto serves as a revealing sketch of the lives and observations of young people from very different generations. Kim Ha Neul's So Eun lives in a politically uproarious time, backclothed by the democracy movement awaken in the nation's campuses. Yoo Ji Tae's selfish In is the spoilt child of a modern, tolerant, joined to world wide web Korea. In letting the past and present intwine together, the movie transforms into a bittersweet essay of the eternal changes over the last decades, a rising will for the hero and the Korea they call homeland.
