Plot: Toru (Ichihara Hayato) and his three friends go to see a local rap group and come away inspired to set up their own act, with the exception of tomboyish Yui (Inoue Mao). But after their first gig is a complete disaster, the boys are forced to re-examine their approach to music - and indeed life - if they are to succeed.
But more complications arise when Toru falls for another rap enthusiast - the older Nagisa - much to Yui's dismay, who has been keeping her true feelings for him bottled up for fear of ruining their friendship.
«Both visually and aurally satisfying, Check It Out, Yo! is a light, "feel-good" sort of movie. It's colorful, inventive, and energizing, and while it may not change your life, it certainly delivers plenty of belly laughs and a slew of intensely likeable performances.»
«“Check It Out, Yo!” is a very entertaining film, with enough funny moments to keep audiences laughing. Even its teen drama, including a somewhat generic love triangle is handled in some unexpected ways.»
«"Check it out, Yo!" is a typical teen comedy, the kind you definitely have seen before, but still has something interesting about it. ... "Check it out, Yo!" works out because of its wacky characters. And there are a lot of them.»
«Sure it’s formulaic and often ventures into teen romance territory that may seem trite to some, but it’s not trying to change the world. It’s a genuinely funny movie with a heart—and ultimately that’s the only formula that really matters.»
