«Widely considered to be one of the greatest martial arts movies ever made, The 36th Chamber of the Shaolin remains a definite must-see film for fans of the genre. Thanks to an intriguing premise, inventive choreography by Lau Kar-Leung, and a star-making turn by lead actor Gordon Liu, this film still retains the ability to hook new viewers even after all these years. Simply put, I liked it.»

«Like many people, I've certainly heard of The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. It's one of the most acclaimed martial arts film in history, and a high point in the golden age of Hong Kong action films. Also like many people, I've never actually gotten around to watching it, though, thanks to my aversion to cheap gray-market dubbed versions of foreign films. Well, the wait is over, martial arts fans. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is indeed great, and we now have the kick-ass disc to prove it.»
KFCCinema review, by Janick Neveu source: http://web.archive.org/web/20071017190618/kfccinema.com/reviews/kungfu~~~er.html
«If the story is so simple and the characters unexceptional, what makes that movie so memorable? Well, it is quite obvious that the action scenes are an important aspect, but I really think that it has much more to do with the great mixture of elements. Of course, as a kung fu movie, the fighting is very well executed with long camera shots and great choreographies. The fights are realistic, energetic, and very entertaining. A great spectacle that will please all kung fu fans for sure. However, even if the fights are of excellent quality, the training sequence steals the show. 36th Chambers is the ultimate training Kung Fu movie.»
